Ok, this is really not news anymore, but...
I have a pet goldfish!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
And it's named Sheep, at Bizhu's suggestion. Lol. My goldfish the Sheep. Now dubbed Sheep2, since I am already Sheep. So I am Sheep1 and my goldfish is Sheep2. Like Bananas in Pajamas, B1 and B2!! Lol.
Oh, for those of you who don't know, I've had this nickname of 'Sheep/Sheepie' since my JC days, when I used to wear this fake white fleece jacket in school. It's become so that my friends from JC don't call me Qing Ying anymore!
'Nyways, I got the goldfish at the Japanese Summer Festival, where I rented a yukata and had a lot of fun. There was this Scoop-A-Fish game, where I didn't manage to scoop even one! I was initially a bit disappointed but also relieved - I wasn't sure if I was prepared for the responsibility of caring for another living creature all on my own. But then the very kind people at the fair gave everyone a goldfish just for participating, and - voila! Sheep2 became my pet. :)
And boy, am I glad. I love Sheep2!!! I used to think fishes were the least rewarding pets, since all they do is swim around. You can't cuddle them, can't talk to them, etc. But having Sheep2 has really dispelled all my previous misconceptions.
Initially, I was worried that it would die very soon. On it's first night, all it did was swim listlessly around the perimeter of its container. At one point, it kept sinking to the bottom and would stay that way for a time, then suddenly appear to struggle to swim upwards. I was so worried I kept nudging it with my finger. xP Honestly I thought it had no strength and was going to die or something. Yes I know dead fish float and fish swim with their eyes open, but Sheep2's eyes were moving around!!
On second thought, maybe Sheep2 was in REM sleep??? LOL. Do goldfish have dreams???
The next day, I bought fish food and some decorative pebbles to put in the container.
It didn't eat at first, which was worrying as well, but which I realise to be normal behaviour after scouring the Net for tips on goldfish care.
A few days later I realised I'd been feeding Sheep2 the wrong kind of food - the pellets I was giving it were too big for its little mouth! But somehow it was managing, by biting off chunks of each pellet after it had been softened by the water.
Which, of course, resulted in the water being a huge cloudy mess by the end of the day.
Now I am feeding it mini pellets, and it's amazing to see it suck 3 or 4 into its mouth at once! :D
I think Sheep2 deserves the Nobel prize for goldfish.
The other day I saw it trying to retrieve a mini pellet that had gotten stuck between some pebbles. It did it by sucking in the water above the pellet, which caused it to float up and into its waiting mouth! Oh gosh, how adorable!!!
I don't care what you say, my goldfish is not stupid!!! Haha.
Sheep2 is now my constant working/slacking companion - I have to put it beside me at all times or I have a horrible tendency to forget all about it! I find it funny how my mom and dad and Sheena actually talk to it, saying things like, "Hello, how are you goldfish? Are you hungry??? Aiyoh, so cute! So clever!!"
Lol. But then I talk to Sheep2 too, just not when they are around, hehe.
Oh and Sheep2 is now fully utilising all parts of the container. Initially, I put the pebbles all over the bottom, but my dad said maybe I should take some out. So I did, to create different depths in different parts of the container, and now it seems quite happy :)
It also, for some reason, likes to swim to one corner and shake its head in a what looks like a playful manner at me. It used to be scared of humans too, but now actually swims towards our direction when we approach! How can you not love Sheep2!! :)
Sheep2 also eats a lot and shits a lot, but well, I suppose that's what goldfish do. Apparently, they don't have stomachs so they don't know what it means to be full, and thus tend to overeat. Am trying not to do that now. A sure sign that Sheep2 is looking for food, though, is when it pecks at the pebbles, as though searching for food. Then I feed it and it gulps down many pellets at one time. :)
Aw, Sheep2 is shaking its head at me now :) :) You know, it's really nice to have something to come home to. Something to take care of. Company, even if it's mute, googly-eyed company, for those long, lonely hours when I am rushing assignments.
Unfortunately, Bizhu's fish Masaki passed away last week from some sort of infection. :(
But we have memories from the festival! :D
Waiting outside to go in, some random Japanese :) In the queue inside the school, after I'd been bundled and squeezed into a rented yukata Some poster in the school. The Merlion looks funny!! Self-explanatory :) In the queue for the game That's the thingy you have to use to scoop the goldfish...the white stuff is actually a thin piece of paper!! I had to wear this stupid balloon hat after losing a game of "Oh Ah Beh Ya Som" (what's the proper name???) with Bizhu and her friends! But in the end everyone wore it lah, lol. With Lucille! :) We didn't go together though. With Masaki, a bottle of green tea, and Sheep2 The scene from the field, where they had a stage for performances and mass dancing. The sunflower is taller than me > . < Sheep2 at home! This is the best picture I managed to get...and this was when the entire floor of the container was filled with pebbles.
I have to get a tank soon if Sheep2 continues eating at the same rate, lol. It already seems a lil' bigger than a week ago!
Oh yes, I bumped into Dawn Yeoh (the actress, not the blogger Dawn Yang) at the festival! She was standing right beside me at one point. I had a bit of a double take although I tried not to be too obvious about it. She caught my eye though, and it was a bit embarrassing... I wondered if it would be rude not to say hi, but then it's not like I know her or that I even like her (though I do not hate her lol). She's just this face on a TV!
So I basically ignored her although I felt like she was looking at me, lol. Maybe she thought I was a fan but too shy to ask her for a photo. After a while someone did ask her for one though. Anyways, she's taller and much prettier than she looks on TV. :)
Edit: I just took a look at Sheep2 and realised that it's a lot fatter than the goldfish in the last pic > . < |
