Brilliant Creatures
Is a brilliant show. Okay, okay, so it's aired on Kids Central. So what, I love cartoons. Maybe I'm just making up for my childhood. I can't remember what cartoons I watched when I was small and when people talk about cartoons like Carebears or whatever cartoons people of my batch used to watch as kids, I'm kinda lost..not that it matters a whole lot, but in a sense, it does? Like something's missing from my childhood. Anyway.

Brilliant Creatures (Thu 1630 in SG), as the name goes, is about creatures. And I mean really all sorts of creatures, big or small, cute and fluffy or creepy and ugly. It's the kind of show that's really informative and good not just for kids, but adults as well. For example, did you know that tigers have webbing between their toes that help them swim? And there are creatures called ligers which are crosses between a tiger and a lion, and that it is the biggest cat in the world? That camels can produce 3000 litres of milk a year?

It's also brilliant because they actually bring the animals onto the set. The last episode I saw had a croc and an alligator about a metre apart from each other and the presenters. Nasty.

Yet another reason? Stephen Mulhern. The boy's had leeches and maggots put on him to demonstrate how these creepies are used in hospitals for treatment, and remains bright and sunny through it all. The look on his face when the leech was taken off and he was told that the wound would continue to bleed for 48 (or was it 72?) more hours was priceless. Lol. Of course they put a plaster on it.

Here's an interesting article on ligers. And wholphins, zonkeys, zorses, tigons....I found out from this article that "sometimes asses (mules) have proven to be fertile, when mated with donkeys, for example." Wow.

Cat physics - cute. Cat lovers can't miss this! =D

As you can see, I really really love animals. Hee. *grin*

Another brilliant show is The Pet Shop (Mon 1200), which is kind of amusing when it's not exactly supposed to be. The presenter (forgot his name) stands in front of some kind of platform with many levels and you have all these pets of his running around freely - puppies, kittens, chinchillas (He actually has 4 chinchillas, but for some odd unknown reason he can only get any 3 to get onto the set each time, so they're called The Three Musketeers. Is that cute or what!), various kinds of birds (one or two of which will be on his shoulder and occasionally trying to peck off his glasses or pulling at his collar), guinea pigs, etc. Plus a Flemish Giant rabbit and an unusual creature called an agouti. It's a wonder how the guy can manage to present a show with all these things running and crawling around in front of him and sometimes disturbing him. Haha. Of course the animals are trained to co-exist even though some of them are natural enemies in the wild. So don't try this at home! =P
