"Friend"ster?
Am I the only one around here who wonders whether some people actually *really* have 100 over, or even 200 over friends? I'll admit that there are some people on my list whom I'd say are more acquaintances than real friends. Once I had to really scratch my head, plus check out the photos (well actually just one photo, and it wasn't even a real photo) and read the testimonials to figure out who it was who was trying to add me. Turned out to be an old schoolmate whom I had probably spoken less than 100 words to all those years. Does being friendly mean that person is your friend? Gee, hardly. It's sort of become more of a popularity competition of sorts, don't you think? I know I felt some pressure. On the other hand, it's really exciting to be back in contact with old mates from primary school, secondary school, first 3 months of JC blah blah blah...
Well, I suppose it's all good clean fun as long as you don't take it too seriously...
That said, Friendster has definitely made an impact on society (at least it has on the connected, online one - and this is so GP-ish!). Just check out Connected Selves and Friendster Slut. I mean, whole blogs dedicated to Friendster?? Hurh. |
