Actually when he said "you'll go there someday" I sort of guessed that it meant heaven or was similar to heaven...anyway Valhalla is still just a term for a heaven-like place in mythology (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valhalla). He thought it was more interesting than just "heaven" which is "boring" cos' it's been used so often that it's lost its meaning (we both think). Nice huh! I mean if you ignore the pagan roots of the concept. I like the idea of being a hero - or rather heroine - "slain gloriously in battle" - against Satan of course!
Like the way Jesus died...He was slain. But even though it seemed like defeat, it was actually total triumph. Glorious, total, triumph.
Am reading Chronicles of Narnia now, lent by Shujuan. The version she bought is obviously a movie tie-in as it's got a picture of the Witch on the cover. Though I much rather prefer those versions with Aslan (the lion) on the cover. So much more dignified and majestic! |
i think this way of saying heaven is cooler too :)
narnia is good, but i liked certain books better than others. i didn't like characters like eustace etc, and so i don't understand why they became the main characters later.
i still prefer harry potter, though i cried when i read the lion the witch and the wardrobe.
